Ways to play with your Pikler

#piklertriangleplay

A lot of people invested in a Pikler triangle (some even an entire set with ramps and cubes!) for the lockdown, but the eternal question I always see in groups is, "Are they versatile or open-ended enough?"

The answer is YES. 😊

What is a Pikler Triangle?

It is an indoor (but wait! Some brands now have their outdoor version. Game changer!) climbing equipment for children ages 6 months to 6 years. This climing frame encourages children to move freely, use those muscles, develop vestibular skills, and improve proprioception and balance. It helps develop fine motor control too! Imagine those tiny hands gripping on the dowels, pushing themselves up. Adorable and strong!

It promotes independence through play and exploration, Dr. Pikler's objective when the Pikler triangle was designed.

List of invitations to play and try!

🤸‍♂️Pikler as a SENSORY BOARD STAND - We did a revamp of our pikler last month and added a detachable sensory board on one side, using 4 hooks at the back.

🤸‍♀️Pikler as a CLIMBING FRAME - Of course! But to spice things up and provide the challenge your children need, add things on top to encourage bubs to pull themselves up and reach or climb. We love our @sandies_sandbags and Xmanis from @amousewithahouse on top! But now that Alex is more mobile, he enjoys climbing up and attempting to go down.

🤸‍♂️Pikler as a WEAVING FRAME - Perfect for older bubs. Both sides can be used as a weaving frame for kid/s to practice fine motor control. Such a good game for logic and maths. Playsilks or thick ribbons would be best to use with this one.

🤸‍♀️Pikler TRAP! RESCUE THOSE PLUSHIES - The good old rescue the animals or plushies! Tie those well-loved stuff toys that bub needs to free! For younger bubs, just tie a knot or use washi tape (they're perfect and they don't leave sticky residue)

🤸‍♂️Pikler as a CAGE - Save those plushies!

🤸‍♀️Pikler as a TUNNEL - Great for bubs in containment and enveloping schema. Cover the pikler with a darker cloth to add more suspense and fun!

🤸‍♂️Pikler as a READING NOOK OR CUBBY - another oldie but goodie. Add fairylights underneath the big cloth, use plastic cover to keep those tiny fingers from touching the lights, and you're done.

🤸‍♀️Pikler as a GIANT ABACUS - attach some pool noodles (I suggest 2 different colours) on the dowels. Perfect for counting and making patterns too.

🤸‍♂️Pikler as a PEG HOLDER - attach some laundry pegs (I found this set from Daiso) that your child can push or pull. My son loves pulling them off our Pikler while I take care of our laundry outside. 😁

Let us know if you have tried some of the activities listed above. We'll be on Instagram, @beyond.our.play ❤ See you there!
